מערכת אבג׳ד (Hisab al-Jummal) מקצה ערכים מספריים ל-28 האותיות הערביות לפי סדר האותיות הסמי העתיק, ולא לפי הסדר האלפביתי המודרני. במשך יותר מאלף שנה היא הייתה מרכזית בתורת הסוד האסלאמית ובשירת סופית, והשתמשו בה כדי למצוא משמעויות נסתרות בפסוקי הקוראן, להלחין כרונוגרמות (תאריכים מקודדים בשירה), ולנתח שמות. הערכים נעים בין 1 (Alif) ל-1000 (Ghayn).
