Nidana

In the context of the NUMINOS Cosmic Clock, Nidana refers to the Tibetan causal sign system that maps each year to one of 12 links in the Buddhist chain of dependent origination (pratityasamutpada). The 12 Nidanas describe the cyclical process of causation that leads to suffering and rebirth: ignorance, formations, consciousness, name-and-form, six sense bases, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, becoming, birth, and aging-and-death. Each year's Nidana provides insight into the predominant causal theme of that period.
